| Summary | During the last decades several organisations implemented many projects trying to introduce solar cookers in domestic households. Experience shows that not only private households can profit from solar cookers but also small busnisses that use solar energy to produce any food product. This example shows a small bakery in the North of Namibia. In May 2003 a Solar Stove was developed in Germany in order to produce 24 loaves at once. In September a second stove was built in Namibia and is used since that time. The small scale bakery is able to bake up to 100 breads a day or about 300 little fish tin rolls. |

| Detailed Description

|||||
| The aim was to to produce a solar stove that can bake a higher quantity than the stoves that we were using in Namibia. The idea behind the technical design was to have a large surface to collect the solar radiation and at the same time to have a minimum volume to avoid heat losses through large interior sufaces and connections. Therefore we designed the steps system in order to fulfil the requirements. Finally we were able to bake 24 loaves at once in about two to three hours, depending on the intensitiy of the sun and the outside temperature. | |||||

solar Bakery
Dear Herr Behringer,
I hail from a mid-size city in India, where I own a central bakery catering to two pastry shops. Given the energy crunch we face, I would like to know more about your Solar Bakery project in Namibia.In fact I am open to suggestions and guidance from anyone reading this.Thanks.

Solar as a tool for poverty eradication
Dear Sir,
It is very interesting and highly appreciate the efforts of yours in promoting solar energy.We are an organization involve in implementing sustainable devcelopment activities for the marginalzed communites in improving thier lifestyle and along with the energy crisis these poor famiies are facing severe difficulties in using energy for micro and small income generating activities in the form of fruit drying/fruit processing and milk processing. Hence seek your advice how we could make a solar cooker capable of fruit processing and where and how we could do it.[Similar to yorufruit sterilizing ]
Thanks
Sunil
